Building a Tech Company: Before vs. After AI

Building a tech product looks completely different today than it did just a few years ago.

In this episode of The Sunday Draft, we sit down with two founders from two completely different eras of software development to share their raw, unfiltered stories of what it’s really like to build a technology company before and after the AI revolution.

Timothy Bramlett is a serial entrepreneur who quit corporate life at HP to co-found Zinng, an AI voice receptionist built specifically for small and medium-sized businesses. He built the initial prototype to serve as an automated receptionist for his wife’s dental office—then turned it into a growing product by selling it before the feature set was even finished, landing early customers at $49/month by simply being a real person they could call.

LeShane Greenhill and श्रीraj co-founded Sagents, a 2011 Nashville startup. Operating on a two-man team with zero AI and a nearly maxed-out credit card, we managed to land Fortune 500 clients like Bridgestone and Nissan.

Together, they unpack the mechanics of modern product development and look closely at what has changed—and what has stayed exactly the same.

What We Cover In This Episode:

  • The Validation Cheat Code: How Timothy sold an unfinished product to early dental office clients before his core features were even built.
  • The Customer Traps: Why most bootstrapped founders target the wrong buyers, and why both enterprise and consumer markets are dangerous traps for early-stage SaaS startups.
  • The Underserved 50%: Why small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) make up 40–50% of U.S. GDP yet remain entirely ignored by Silicon Valley.
  • The 2-Man Fortune 500 Playbook: How Sagens closed massive accounts like Bridgestone using old-school grit and no technical leverage.
  • The Brutal Truth: Why an app without a dedicated sales strategy is completely worthless, and why the builders who figure that out first are the ones who survive.
